In practice
The mention is the primitive of AI visibility: the answer names you, or it doesn’t — and the citation (which page it drew from) is a separate, trackable layer. What a brand can influence is the evidence the engines assemble from: the third-party pages — comparison lists, review roundups, alternatives pages, community threads — that answers draw on when a buyer asks “which tool for X”. The method is working backwards: run the buyer’s real questions, record which brands get named and which pages get cited, and place accurate mentions on the cited pages; then re-run and report what changed.
The honesty line stays fixed: there is no public data yet proving that a mention causes a citation — the strongest public signal is correlation (Ahrefs’ 75,000-brand study: branded web mentions at 0.664 versus backlinks at 0.218 for AI Overview presence), and famous brands are famous for other reasons. So the service is placement plus tracking, never a promise of appearing in an answer. What the mention buys even before any citation: the brand enters the consideration set the answer composes, described accurately if the surrounding web describes it accurately — which is why mention work and entity consistency are the same programme.
The measurement design: mentions tracked per prompt cluster and per engine, reported as share and rotation, because engines re-roll constantly and a single snapshot of “we’re in ChatGPT” is a mood, not a metric.
