E-E-A-T and experience signals

E-E-A-T — Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust — is the framework Google's quality raters use to judge content reliability, and the practical checklist for making a site demonstrably written by people who know the subject.

In practice

E-E-A-T is not a score a site can pass; it is the sum of signals that make credibility legible — and it has become more load-bearing as AI surfaces choose sources to quote, because systems selecting citable pages lean on the same evidence. The four components translate into concrete site features. Experience: content that shows the writer has actually done the thing — first-hand method, real screenshots, numbers from the team’s own work, not aggregated platitudes. Expertise: named authors with credentials that matter in the niche — profiles, LinkedIn, a body of work — plus review by a named expert where the topic is deep.

Authoritativeness: the outside world’s confirmation — coverage, citations, mentions on the publications your category reads, which is where link and mention work directly feeds this signal. Trust: the unglamorous layer — accurate claims, cited sources, working contact points, honest policies, no fabricated statistics. For a technology vendor the fastest wins are structural: author boxes with real people and real history, an editorial standards page stating who reviews what, case studies with honest attribution, and claims in placements that the client’s own team would sign. The failure mode is theatre — badges and buzzwords without substance — and evaluators, human or automated, discount it on sight.

E-E-A-T also constrains vendors: content shipped to publishers carries the client’s claims, and the standard is that nothing goes out that the client’s experts would disown.
