Target pages
- Each target URL named explicitly (no “the homepage”, no “wherever fits”)
- Page purpose classified: sells (pricing, alternatives, integrations), ranks (close to moving), or supports (blog, comparison)
- Page is indexable: no noindex, no canonical pointing elsewhere, not mid-migration
- Page is ready: not thin, not empty, loads, works on mobile
- For international: the localised page exists and is live in the target market’s language
Anchors
- Anchor approach agreed per page: brand / URL / descriptive mix
- No repeated exact-match keyword anchors across placements
- Descriptive anchors phrased naturally for the reader (in the market’s language for international)
- Anchor list approved by the client before outreach starts
Placement mix
- Placement type chosen per page with a reason (insertion / guest post / international / brand mention)
- Insertions: a suitable existing page to insert into has been identified
- Guest posts: an angle exists that a publisher would accept without the link
- Brand mentions: the pages AI engines already cite for the buyer’s questions are listed
- Volume and pacing agreed (links per month), not “as many as possible”
Approvals and logistics
- Client knows which placements involve a publisher fee before approving
- Client approves every site before anything goes live
- Reporting expectations set: go-live dates, index checks, 12-month monitoring
- Escalation path agreed: who decides when a site is borderline
